M Burghers et al 1700
Description:
Folio three quarter brown leather with marbled boards (18th - 19th century), circa 1700, 40 double pages of copper engraved maps. Lacks contents and title page (so i can't establish date, but first edition was 1700), tidy archival restoration to some page edges not affecting maps other than a minor archival repair to the upper edge of "Ancient Gaul", Binding is scuffed and worn but sound, and contents are crisply printed and clean with only light wrinkling in centres. Double map of Greece and Thrace is bound in upside down. New Zealand is a line adjacent to parts unknown of the Pacifick - one of the earlierst representations of it, predating Cook's voyages. Bulgaria is above Roumania and below Moldavia. Many areas of the world are "parts undiscovered". A treasure. RARE
